Bass Haven Formally Opposes Fixed-Span Hall-Whitaker Bridge Design
Bass Haven Yacht Club has submitted a formal comment letter to the U.S. Coast Guard opposing MassDOT's proposed fixed-span replacement for the Hall-Whitaker Bridge. As proposed, the new bridge would offer only 17.4 feet of clearance at high tide — permanently blocking sailboats and flybridge power vessels from reaching the Club, affecting 17 current members and shutting the door on future ones. The letter lays out the legal and historical case for why this design is an unreasonable obstruction to navigation, and calls on the Coast Guard to require a drawbridge or a much taller fixed span instead.
